Optional Learning Activities
Complementary Telecommunications Activities
Optional Learning Activities
These complementary learning activities extend the Analog Telephony Laboratory beyond the core service-path sequence.
They are part of the broader instructional module but are documented separately because they develop additional telecommunications competencies rather than representing required stages of the primary analog telephone service path.
The core laboratory sequence focuses on:
Customer Premises → Distribution → Outside Plant → Functional Service
The activities presented here extend that environment into additional telecommunications systems and applications.
Coaxial Cable Distribution
This activity introduces students to coaxial cable installation and distribution.
Students perform practical tasks including:
- installation of coaxial cable between the student workspace and the distribution splitter;
- termination of the cable with a male coaxial connector;
- installation of a faceplate with a female coaxial connector;
- testing of the completed installation.
The activity complements the twisted-pair and structured-cabling activities by exposing students to another physical medium used in telecommunications distribution.
Future Optional Activities
Additional activities may be incorporated into this section as the laboratory environment evolves.
These activities can extend the instructional environment without modifying the core Analog Telephony Laboratory sequence.
